Toxicology is a scientific discipline, overlapping with biology, chemistry, pharmacology, and medicine, that involves the study of the adverse effects of chemical substances on living organisms and the practice of diagnosing and treating exposures to toxins and toxicants. Do you know what is preclinical toxicology studies?
Toxicology is the study of the toxic effects of chemical substances (including drugs), the test is undertaken on new chemical entities during their development as potential medicinal products.
The main types of drug toxicity:
- Toxic effects of drugs can be related to the principal pharmacological action, this usually is predicted from knowledge of the target sites. Such reactions are predictable, reversible, and usually can be managed by lowering the dose of the offending drug.
- Toxic effects of drugs can be unrelated to the main pharmacological action of the drug. Such adverse effects are termed idiosyncratic and are often initiated by metabolites of the parent drug or by other indirect mechanisms.
- Some adverse reactions that occur with ordinary therapeutic dosage are initially unpredictable, serious, and uncommon. Such reactions are almost inevitably detected only after the widespread use of a new drug.
-- Adverse effects unrelated to the main action of a drug are often caused by reactive metabolites and/or immunological reactions.
Medicilon has successfully established a wide range of in vivo and in vitro study designs to evaluate the safety of your drug candidates. Our toxicology department has professional teams with rich experience in toxicology studies. We offer high-quality data and rapid turnaround period to support drug discovery and development. Our toxicological studies are conducted on various animal species.
Over the past 12 years, Medicilon have gained a wide range of experience in acute, subchronic and chronic toxicity studies using various routes of administration in small and large animals, which are housed in state-of-the-art facilities with highest quality standards. We provide extensive knowledge in the testing of a variety of drug compounds in all relevant species.
We routinely manage the following toxicology studies (mouse, rat, rabbit, dog, and non-human primates):
Single dose toxicity test (rodent and non-rodent)
Repeated dose toxicity study (rodent and non-rodent)
Safety pharmacology test: telemetry and non-telemetry to monitor the electrocardiogram and respiration of dogs and monkeys, rats FOB
Genotoxicity tests
Immunogenicity test
Partial toxicity test
Medicilon provides full nonclinical development programs in support of IND and later-stage regulatory submissions for new chemical (NCE) or biological entities (NBE). On the basis of more than 12 years of experience, we are guiding your project with the highest flexibility and efficiency to IND and beyond.
Depending on program needs, toxicology studies are typically conducted using rats, mice, canines, non-human primates, mini-pigs, rabbits, or other species.
Safety Pharmacology: Get the accurate, reliable results you need for FDA approval. Medicilon applies in-depth scientific expertise, standardized protocols with known delivery timelines, and close communication with clients to accelerate the drug development process. Learn more>>
Occupational Exposure: Understand the health and safety impact of chemicals used in industrial processes. Medicilon’s toxicology studies provide clear answers for manufacturers and regulatory agencies.
