- Cytokines are proteins or polypeptides that are secreted by activated immune cells and some stromal cells to mediate and regulate immune and inflammatory responses. Cytokine detection has value in disease diagnosis, basic immune research and cytokine therapy monitoring. We can detect the concentration of cytokines in peripheral blood and also stimulate lymphocytes to secrete cytokines via in vitro culture approaches to amplify the stimulating effect of drugs on immune cells. Using this approach, we can predict the potential risk of drugs that may cause cytokine release syndrome, and determine the minimum expected biological effect level to choose a reasonable and safe starting dose for clinical studies.
